Monica McAlister
Monica has completed the FEMA public information officer training through the Advanced Public Information Officer course.
Currently, one of the instructors of the Public Information Basics course for the Michigan State Police Emergency Management Division on-going training programs, including the Professional Emergency Manger (PEM) program and National Emergency Management Basic Academy (NEMBA).
Monica has served as the Social Media Coordinator for the Charter Township of Fenton since 2021 where she has developed policy for public information dissemination and fostered two-way communication with the public through the introduction of an updated website, creating social media accounts, and launching a branded app for the Township for citizen notifications.
Monica holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Davenport University and a Master of Science in Homeland Security and Emergency Management from Purdue University Global. At the time of accepting the role of Executive Director for MEMA, she is one class and the exam away from obtaining her PEM. Monica was selected as a member of the Government Social Media Associations Training Committee for 2024 and 2025 and is a member of the National Information Officers Association (NIOA). In 2024, Monica was named to the Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL) Top 100 local government influencers.
Monica is passionate about the emergency management field and building public trust in emergency management.
