Mike Corfman

 

Mike was appointed as Director of Kalamazoo County’s Office of Emergency Management in the summer of 2018. As the Director, Mike is responsible for developing and executing the emergency management program for Kalamazoo County, including the Cities of Kalamazoo, Portage, Galesburg, and Parchment. Mike brings over 30 years of public safety, military, and private business experience to the County. He has been involved with emergency management in Kalamazoo County for over 25 years, serving as the chairperson for the Disaster Preparedness Committee for most of that time.

Mike previously served over 30 years in the fire service and as a Fire Chief in 2 communities. He also served over 30 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring as a Senior Chief Maritime Enforcement Specialist and was assigned to the USCG Deployable Specialized Forces for 15 years. He served 3 tours in the Persian Gulf region during Operation Iraqi Freedom and was deployed to many disaster and maritime security operations around the globe. Mike has attended several federal, state, and local fire and law enforcement academies, and is credentialed as a Chief Fire Officer by the Commission on Professional Credentialing.
