Chris Peterson
Chris serves as the Emergency Management Director for Iron County (since July 2023) and Schoolcraft County (since August 2022). Prior to this, he served as Luce County 911 & Emergency Management Director for two years.
Chris retired from the U.S. Forest Service in February 2020, after serving over 29 years in multiple states in multiple positions ranging from Law Enforcement Officer to Forest Fire Chief. Chris has served in multiple details and emergency responses to FEMA incidents such as Hurricanes Irma, Maria, Danny, Katrina, MS252 Oil spill, and served over 28 days as ESF4 in NYC at 911-World Trade Center.
Chris has served over 25 years on National Type 1 & 2 Incident Management Teams responding to all hazard and wildland fires all over the country as well as Mexico. Chris served as Incident Commander Type 3, Situation Unit Leader, Planning Section Chief Type 2 -Trainee, and Liaison Officer. He has completed 420-Command and General Staff and Complex Incident Management (CIMC) for Type 1 certification. Prior to retirement Chris served on a national training cadre instructing Operational Planning for the Nigerian Emergency Management Agency.
Chris serves as a CPR, Firefighter1/2, Wildland and ICS Instructor throughout the Midwest. When not working, he serves as a Volunteer Firefighter with the Spalding Township Fire Department and a Reserve Deputy with the Menominee County Sheriff Office.
Chris resides in Powers Michigan with his wife Jodi. Daughter Victoria lives and works in Grand Rapids and son Nathaniel works in Littleton, Colorado. He enjoys his hunting camp outside of Carney, MI with friends and family.
